Our Weight Loss Clinic helps your weight management

Our Weight Loss Clinic applies the National Medical Weight Loss Programme (NMWLP) to aid weight management. Dr Tayo, our weight loss specialist and a qualified GP, oversees patient assessments and treatments as part of the programme.

What is the NMWLP?

The National Medical Weight Loss Programme aims to help you lose weight using the following techniques:

  • Control of appetite
  • Curbing hunger
  • Suppressing food cravings
  • Reducing portion sizes
  • Releasing fat already stored in the body
  • Managing weight
  • Developing positive habits

More about the NMWLP

How can I join the Weight Management Clinic?

The first step in joining our Weight Management Clinic is to contact us using the Enquiry form on this page. Dr Tayo will then be able to assess - by an initial In-Clinic or Remote Video Consultation - whether this treatment is suitable for you, and will answer any questions you may have.

We will then create a bespoke weight loss plan tailored for your body type, age and other aspects of your physiology. This plan may include the administration of weight loss injections.

What are weight loss injections?

The National Medical Weight Loss Programme uses injections of a weight loss medication which is licensed for use in weight management, and has passed numerous clinical trials for safety.

Your body naturally produces a hormone GLP-1, to regulate appetite and food intake - this is what makes you feel full, and thus less inclined to eat again. The injections mimic the action of this hormone to achieve the same effect, aiding your efforts to decrease calorific intake and thus to manage your weight effectively.

Am I eligible to have weight loss injections?

Weight loss injections can be used, alongside diet and exercise, to help adults aged between 18 and 75 who have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or higher.

The injections may also be available for people with a BMI of 27 or more, in cases where there are other weight-related health issues present. These issues may include cases of high blood pressure, lipids (abnormal fat levels in your blood), or obstructive sleep apnoea (breathing problems during sleep).

What conditions might make me unsuitable for the Weight Management Clinic?

The National Medical Weight Loss Programme is not suitable for all people. The programme is not suitable in these cases:

  • For those who are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or who are breast feeding
  • For people who are taking medications related to diabetes
  • For people with inflammatory bowel disease
  • For people with a history of thyroid cancer
  • For people with a history of pancreatitis
  • For people who have experienced severe heart failure
  • For people with severe kidney disease

What are the side effects of having weight loss injections?

The most common side effects of weight loss injections include nausea, indigestion, constipation or diarrhoea, although these usually go away within a few days of the treatment. We'll be very happy to discuss these side effects with you at any time.

How many injections will I require?

  • The injections are supplied in 'Pens' of 18mg each, with a usual starting dose of 0.6mg per day for the first 7 days. At this point the effectiveness of the dose in suppressing your appetite or cravings will be assessed, after which the dose may either be maintained or increased if necessary.
  • If deemed necessary, the dosage will increase to 1.2mg per day for a week before a further reassessment.
  • The dose can be increased further each week in increments of 0.6mg, up to a maximum dosage of 3.0mg per week.

Will the weight loss clinic programme include a diet and exercise plan?

Dr Tayo can advise you on adopting healthier habits with your diet (i.e portion control, nutritional advice (including adopting a keto-style diet etc) which will in tandem support your overall well-being. Dr Tayo does strongly promote regular physical movement and exercise. Should you wish to get an exercise plan we would reccommend getting in touch with a  qualified personal trainer to help meet your fitness goals and targets.

How much do weight loss treatments cost?

Everyone's journey will be different, in terms of how much weight they need to lose & how long they may wish to remain on the medication/treatment. We strongly urge our patients to use this treatment to help support and adopt a healthier lifestyle so you are not solely depending on the medication. The consultation fee is £/€75 & all our pricing is available on our website.
